If it was India’s law to hang any person who was responsible for murder, we would not protest the hanging of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. We would say that he is being hanged because that is the law of the land. As Sikhs, it is our duty to abide by the truth and law.
I believe this article touches a subject that most females read about from time to time but don’t discuss so there could actually be a change. I hope you all read it if you get a minute. I honestly wish more women would come to a realization that the gender roles we “think” we’re diminishing are in actuality evolving with each generation. Yes, we are striving for more financial independence but emotionally, we as females must become stronger and confident in the work we do. Let me just touch a very sensitive subject— self esteem. Most women AND men are comfortable being semi dissatisfied with their body image, personality, their value to others in their lives, etc. How are we content with this? I personally believe having high self esteem is quite difficult to have in this society but I do think it is something we should focus on in the females younger than us, in other words our future. Media is the fastest and strongest influence today and it unfortunately has the ability to control how we think. In my opinion self esteem is the very first ingredient for women to become confident and emotionally stable so letting something like media tell you that you’re not beautiful or a strong person is disheartening. I am 24 years old and I have first hand witnessed many females of all ages break down to very low points in their lives AND they have gotten back up stronger than ever. Contrary, I have also seen women okay with men having an upper hand on their lives in relationships, control their stability in emotions and list goes on. This is becoming an essay haha so let me cut to the chase. Our world isn’t as pretty as it plays out to be and truth is not everyone cares to be a role model but if you cared to read this, I hope you find it in you to make a change. Allow yourself to be a critical thinker! Tell yourself what your best qualities are so you feel GOOD about yourself. Don’t let media or MEN control that. We tend to forget that giving yourselves attention is a good thing! When you feel good, you will want others to feel the same and that is why I am writing this. I want women to find strength and beauty within themselves, not only when they fit societies idea of beauty. I think I’m going off on too many angles, good thing this isn’t an essay ;] Most people don’t realize this but you are bound to be at least ONE persons role model out there, be what you want to see in this world. Stop expecting to see a change, it begins with YOU.
